Brian O’Connor is a longtime radio veteran, independent horror filmmaker, photographer, and lifelong devotee of things that go bump in the night. His favorite horror film is 1985’s Fright Night, his favorite franchise is Friday the 13th, and he firmly believes practical effects deserve more respect. Though born and raised in Oregon, Brian somehow became a diehard Minnesota Twins fan, proving horror isn’t limited to movies. When he’s not dissecting slashers on Opening Kill, he’s usually creating stories, chasing cinematic atmosphere, or trying to convince people that vampire movies peaked in the ‘80s.
Michael Duren brings radio experience, sharp horror opinions, and unshakable devotion to the Scream franchise to Opening Kill. He’s a massive fan of Sinners and 2025’s The Long Walk, and firmly believes Ghostface deserves a permanent seat at the horror table. Despite having no geographical connection whatsoever, Michael proudly supports the Cleveland Guardians with alarming enthusiasm. When he’s not debating horror rankings or breaking down kills, he’s a proud husband to Hannah and father of two future horror fans currently being raised on suspense, sarcasm, and probably far too many scary movies.
Opening Kill is a horror podcast where classic slashers, cult favorites, modern nightmares, and creature features are dissected scene by scene. Hosts Brian O’Connor and Michael Duren break down kills, characters, practical effects, atmosphere, and everything that makes horror unforgettable, blending deep genre love with humor, storytelling, and cinematic obsession.
